I get a lot of questions about my favorite places in Chicago – both from locals and people planning visits! I always feel honored that they are asking for my opinion, but sometimes I can’t keep up with comments/messages/emails. And there’s nothing worse than finally responding only to find out their trip was the week before. Woops. (I’m really sorry if I’ve done that to you!)
But I have a solution. I’ve decided that this summer, I’m going to launch a new “My Favorite” series! So far, my list includes Favorite Brunch, Dinner, Patio, Fitness Teachers, Italian Food and MORE! Is there anything in particular you’d like me to add to this list? Please comment and let me know! This is for YOU, after all ?
And with that, let’s get started with the first list:
The Best Healthy Spots in Chicago
- True Food Kitchen
This suggestion should shock NO ONE. You can read all about my love for True Food in this blog post – but since it’s opened in Chicago, I’ve become especially fond of the Ancient Grains Bowl and the Medicine Man tea served warm (<- thanks for that tip, Blair!).
Again, no surprise here! These salads pop up in my Insta Stories all the time – and for good reason. Really, WHY do they taste so much better than every other salad?? I love the Beets Don’t Kale My Vibe and OMG Omega… but honestly my favorite is my own creation with Spicy Cashew Dressing on top. I keep hoping that one day they’ll start selling bottles of that dressing because it. is. EVERYTHING.
- Real Good Juice Co.
I remember walking into their Old Town location the first week they opened – and since then, they’ve opened multiple new locations, expanded their juice/smoothie menu, started making smoothie bowls and almond cheese and avocado toast… Moral of the story: they’re killing it. My go-to is always the Kal E. Kopowski, but really, everything is delicious. My only complaint is that their Acai Bowl is never as thick as I want it to be, which leads me to…
- Graze Kitchenette
Since none of this is sponsored, I want to be real with guys. THIS is the Acai Bowl you want. As they say themselves, it’s a damn good bowl. I also love their Avocado Matcha Bowl, but I haven’t tried their Banana Cashew yet. Have any of you tried it?
- Blue Door Farm Stand
I know I said Sweetgreen has the best salads in the world – but Blue Door has them beat when it comes to their Brussels & Kale Salad. It’s made with shaved brussels sprouts, kale, almonds, BACON, parmesan and a creamy Maple Tahini Dressing. You may think I’m crazy, but it’s probably my favorite thing to order in on lazy nights when I don’t care about delivery fees. I know, #weirdo. I cannot WAIT for them to open up their new full restaurant so I can eat it in real clothes instead of in my PJs on my couch ?
- Left Coast
I wish I lived closer to this gem, because I would go all the time. My favorite menu items so far are their grain bowls (Farro and Away & Moab Medley) and sparkling splashes (Citrus Turmeric), but I plan on eating my way through more of the menu this summer! A trip to Lakeview is better when it’s nice out, right? Plus, there are ALWAYS dogs out on that patio. Just saying.
- Ahola Poke Co.
I’m assuming you’ve heard about the pokē craze by now, right? Well, it’s freaking delicious. If you haven’t tried it yet, just go during an off time and pick up one of these cute little bowls. As long as you like sushi, you’ll love this.
- Doc B’s Fresh Kitchen
I love this place because there’s something for everyone. You can order a Quinoa Salad or Wok Out Bowl, but whoever you’re with can indulge in a burger or pizza. AND neither one of you will regret your order, because everything tastes good! You know that familiar “where should we eat” debate? Solved.
I almost didn’t include Beatrix on this list because I have a feeling it will pop up on a few more of my roundups this summer. But alas, it IS one of my favorite healthy restaurants! How could I leave it out? I’m partial to their Quinoa Cakes with Poached Eggs, but I also love their Cauliflower Grits, all of their salads (add salmon), the veggie burger, and the Chia Seed Pudding. So good.
- Plum Market
Okay, I know this isn’t a restaurant, but I just love this grocery store. Not only do they always have gorgeous produce, but they have pretty much ALL of my favorite healthy brands. I actually want to do a post about all of my favorite grocery store purchases – would you be interested in that? Let me know!
I also love Kitchfix and Snap Kitchen, but I’ll talk more about those spots when I talk about my favorite takeout/delivery options – don’t worry! I also hear The Chicago Diner is amazing and I’m dying to check out a brand new spot in Logan Square called The Kombucha Room. They have 20 different kinds of booch, and you can order flights like a wine bar! Umm can I have a flight of all 20, please? Thanks.
So… did I leave any of your favorites out?
Please comment and tell me if I did! I promise I’ll check them out and report back. Happy (and healthy ?) eating, friends!
