3 Pieces From The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Styled 3 Ways
The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is open to the public today! Here’s how I styled 3 of the items I purchased 3 different ways…
Happy Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Day!!! Okay, I know you’ve been hearing about this for what feels like forever, but today is different because everyone can shop at 11:30 CST today! WAHOOOO!!
Because it’s hot AF in Chicago right now, you might not even want to THINK about Fall right now – and I don’t really blame you! So instead of solely updating my roundup of the best pieces by category, I thought I’d take my try on post one step further…
When I was shopping for myself, I really tried to pick out items that I knew I could get a lot of use out of. And that means that not only do I have to love it, but I have to be able to style it with other things in my closet – and potentially even stretch them over a few different seasons. So, I got Adam to help me snap these photos so that I could highlight 3 pieces I bought from the sale styled 3 different ways – from cool Summer nights all the way to chilly November days!
Floral Midi Dress Outfit #1 – For Date Night or Event/Wedding in the Summer
Before even shopping the sale myself, I kept seeing this dress in leopard – so when I saw that it also came in floral, I was psyched. Being petite (as a refresher, I’m only 5′ 1.5″!), I can’t always pull off midi dresses… or I just don’t like the silhouette on me enough to spend the money on it. But this one is only $38.90 (!!!) and it surprised me as soon as I tried it on.
It has a TON of styling potential, but I thought I’d start with the obvious choice first – add some heels and a clutch and you’ve got a great look for a date, wedding, or other event!
Dress: Nordstrom (wearing a size XS) | Shoes: old, but similar here | Clutch: Gigi New York
Floral Midi Dress Outfit #2 – For Brunch or Daytime Event In the Summer and Early Fall
This look is very me, and to be honest – it’s pretty much why I’m keeping this dress! The belt gives me a waist and raises the hemline a little (more on that below!), and the jean jacket keeps it casual. Plus, I got these heels from the sale and they’re so comfortable! Not too high AND a thick heel? Yes PLEASE! I’d wear this outfit to a daytime event or brunch with my girlfriends.
Before we move on, let’s talk about adding a belt a bit more! Since I am both petite and curvy, belts are my best friend. If you’re long and straight, you might not want to break up it up – but for me, it helps define my waist so the dress doesn’t swallow me. It also allows you to raise the hemline! If you feel like this dress is just an inch or two too long, add a belt and blouse the dress up over that belt! It makes such a huge difference, trust me 😉
Dress: Nordstrom (wearing an XS) | Jean Jacket: old Lou & Grey (this one from the NSALE is similar!) | Bag: Amazon (under $25!) | Sunglasses: old Loft | Belt: old but VERY similar here | Shoes: 1.State (runs slightly big – I got my usual 6.5 and they’re a littttle big, so if you’re in between sizes, I’d size down.)
Floral Midi Dress Outfit #3 + Hot Pink Sweater Outfit #1 – For Desk to Drinks in the Fall and Early Winter
Alright, this outfit counts for TWO pieces I got… and even Adam commented on how cute it was! Win! The trick for this look is to use that belt from the previous outfit. Tuck a tiny bit of this pink sweater into the belt and blouse the rest over the top so it disappears under the sweater. This will keep it up near your waist so your legs look a little bit longer – and so it looks more like a sweater and skirt vs. a sweater thrown over a dress. Such a cute way to remix your wardrobe for a workday turned happy hour!
Dress: Nordstrom (wearing an XS) | Sweater: Nordstrom (wearing an XS – it is SO soft, I’m obsessed!) |Belt: old but VERY similar here | Bag: old by Cuyana (love this option that’s under $100, too!) | Shoes: old but similar here
Hot Pink Sweater Outfit #2 – For Casual Hangs on Chilly Summer Nights
If you couldn’t already tell from the outfit above or this try on post, I loooove this sweater! The color is amazing, it’s crazy soft, and the little puff sleeves make it a little bit more special. I’m wearing an XS and besides the sleeves being a little long, the fit is great. I love this look for a chilly summer night or one of those in-between Summer and Fall days when it’s still warm but also slightly crisp!
Sweater: Nordstrom (wearing an XS) | Shorts: c/o Everlane (I’m normally a size 26 in jeans and I sized up to a size 27 for these!) | Bag: Amazon | Sunglasses: old Loft | Sandals: Everlane (not a part of the sale, but they’re an awesome sandal – so chic and SO COMFORTABLE!)
Hot Pink Sweater Outfit #3 – For Brunch or Running Errands in Early Fall
Obviously you guys know that you can pair a sweater with jeans in the Fall and Winter (DUH), so I wanted to show you that you can definitely wear this sweater with white jeans when the weather cools off a bit, too! This outfit still feels really bright and fun, but you won’t freeze if the temps drop on ya.
Sweater: Nordstrom (wearing an XS) | White Pants: J Brand (I know these are very expensive if you don’t get them on sale like I did, but I looove my pair! Runs TTS.) | Bag: c/o Talbots (sold out but similar here) | Shoes: c/o Birdies (very similar for under $100 here, too!)
Red Mini Dress Outfit #1 – For Running Errands in the late Summer and Early Fall
I’m always looking for effortless dresses that I can pair with sneakers or heels… and it’s probably not surprising that this cute red one was hard to resist. I’m hoping they restock over the weekend because it’s selling out FAST, but if they don’t and this post convinces you that you want this style, it also comes in Ash Cheetah!
Dress: Nordstrom (wearing an XS. Comes in more colors here!) | Sunglasses: old Loft | Bag: c/o Coach (love this tan crossbody too!) | Shoes: Keds
Red Mini Dress Outfit #2 – For Date Night or Drinks with Friends in the Fall
As soon as I put this dress on in the fitting room, I immediately knew I’d wear this with a leather jacket all Fall long. I didn’t buy the one I tried on in store, but the one that was already in my closet still gives this feminine dress a little bit of extra edge, which I love. You could easily pair these with a bootie or darker heel, too – I just love these new nude pumps I snagged from the sale, plus nude usually helps elongate my short legs 😉
Dress: Nordstrom (wearing an XS. Comes in more colors here!) | Leather Jacket: Mango (I got mine in Barcelona and I’m OBSESSED! It’s also on sale right now which brings the price closer to what I got it for there vs. the online price. I’m wearing size XS!) | Bag: Rebecca Minkoff (also LOVE this one on sale!) | Shoes: 1.State (runs slightly big – I got my usual 6.5 and they’re a littttle big, so if you’re in between sizes, I’d size down.)
Red Mini Dress Outfit #3 – For anything from brunch to drinks this Fall and Winter
How great is it when you find a dress that you can wear with sandals when it’s nice out and over the knee boots when it’s cold?! THE BEST! It’s also pretty great that you can customize the length to work with OTK boots no matter how short or tall you are. All you have to do is blouse the top over the smocked waist to bring the skirt up, or pull it down to make it longer!
Dress: Nordstrom (wearing an XS. Comes in more colors here!) | Bag: Rebecca Minkoff (also LOVE this one on sale!) | Boots: DSW (There are a lot of great options in this sale too – I love this pair and this pair!)

BONUS: Other things I bought + What I Already Own
something navy flecked crewneck sweater – on sale for $49.90
I actually got this color and the pink to try, but they haven’t arrived yet! I found this sweater to run big and long, so I got the XXS. A great options with leggings on cozy days this Fall!
love by design chenille sweater – on sale for $25.90
Crazy soft and only $25? I couldn’t resist this one. Wearing a size small.
nordstrom short pajamas – on sale for $35.90
I ended up snagging these in navy and I can’t wait for them to arrive! Wearing a size small.
Socialite Henley and Barbour Coat
I got last year’s version of this henley and it was a favorite of mine all Fall/Winter. It is so much softer than you’d ever expect a henley to be – but it’s not bulky at all, so it’s great for travel. I’m honestly considering getting it in the rhubarb color this year since it’s magically still on stock.
As for the Barbour coat, this exact style isn’t a part of the sale, but they have a lot of other great options. Here’s my take – mine was gifted, so I totally understand that if you don’t really feel like you need it, it might not be worth the money, even on sale. That being said, if you’ve been looking for a coat like this, I can’t speak more highly about the quality. You’ll have this for YEARS instead of needing to get something else next year.
Rails Shirt – on sale for $99.90
This shirt is an investment piece that I feel VERY strongly about. I have purchased countless plaid shirts/flannels that last one season, maybe two. But I bought this shirt in 2015 and it’s still in incredible condition, just as soft as when I first got it, and one that I reach for on a weekly basis in the Fall and Winter. Instead of getting 3 new cheap ones, I’d recommend getting ONE of these – it’s way more bang for your buck.
Hunter Short Rain Boots – On Sale for $89.90
To be fair, the ones pictured above are super old and the boots on sale are better because they’re PACKABLE! Either way, this height is great for shrimps like me who don’t want rubber boots all the way up to their knees when it’s rainy – especially if it might not rain ALL day.
Zella Leggings – on sale for $38.90
I CANNOT BELIEVE THESE AREN’T SOLD OUT! Seriously, add these to your cart as soon as the sale goes live because they won’t last. I’ve heard people compare them to Lulu’s align leggings which I totally disagree with… but they’re still an AWESOME legging, especially for $38! I wear a size small and they’re a little long, but they also have a cropped version on sale right now, too!
*PS. A solid grey version of my sweatshirt is not a part of the Anniversary Sale, but it happens to be marked down!
Hanky Panky Thongs – on sale for $16.90 or 4 for $59
I discovered Hanky Panky thongs back when I worked in retail, and they’re one thing I always used my employee discount on. I have them in almost every color and they’re what I wear pretty much every single day. They’re just the most comfortable and easy for me!
Commando Thong – On Sale for $14.50
Let’s just continue talking about underwear for a sec! As much as I love Hanky Pankys, the lace can show through certain fabrics. If that’s the case, I love this Commando thong. It lays really flat on your hips, and the material is really breathable and lightweight. Big fan.
Urban Decay Setting Spray Set – On sale for $48
This is the only setting spray I’ve ever tried, so I can’t compare and contrast with any others – I just know I love this one!
Fresh Dream On Lip Set – On Sale for $32
I discovered this brand through Gal Meets Glam years ago, and it’s really just a lovely tinted balm. Since then, I’ve also tried the Sugar Lip Polish that’s included in this set and it’s also lovely.
What I’m Still Considering…
spanx faux leather leggings – on sale for $64.90
I still can’t tell if these are a little extra for me, or if I’d wear them ALL THE TIME. Definitely overthinking this one…
Blondo Booties – On Sale for $99.90
I told myself I didn’t need any more boots, and then I saw how beat up my go-to black suede pair is and realized maybe I could use an update. (Yikes) I love that these are basic, they look comfortable, and they’re waterproof – so practical!
*Side note: one of my best friends got these Blondo Wedge Sneakers and now I’m also considering those instead of the booties. Which one do you like better?!
Caslon Faux Fur Jacket – On Sale for $65.90
I forgot to take a picture of this for my try on post, but it does make an appearance in my IGTV video! Super soft and cozy – I just don’t think I should get it unless a Petite XS comes back in stock.
Treasure & Bond Jacket – on sale for $58.90
Ignore the fact that I slipped this on over a sundress… because it’s SO CUTE! Do I really need another jacket? No. But the inside has a super soft fleece and the outside is a nice lightweight quilt. Such a great transitional coat!
Andddd that’s a wrap! Happy Shopping, friends!
