3 Things You Have To Do in San Antonio
Happy Thursday, everyone! I’m a little sad that this is my last Texas roundup for all of you… but it’s a good one! As I mentioned in Monday’s post, I had to cut the trip off a little early, so San Antonio was my final stop. I think Adam could tell that I was starting to get anxious about the sadness I was going to have to deal with the next day, so he really helped me make the most of our last day. It didn’t hurt that San Antonio is a really fun city or that we stayed in a gorgeous hotel room at the Westin Riverwalk ? (You can see more pictures of our hotel here!)
I know we only spent 24 hours in San Antonio, but we really made the most of our time with the 3 places listed below. They were SO fun – and I’m pretty confident that even if I was there longer, I would still recommend each of these. Let’s dive in!
San Antonio Riverwalk
I know the Riverwalk might seem like just a tourist trap, but it’s actually SO beautiful! I couldn’t get over how cool it was that there is literally a river running through the entire city. Right away, we knew we were going to get a completely different experience here vs. Dallas or Austin.
Since our hotel was right there, we strolled along the riverwalk for a while at our own pace to get our bearings. Everyone recommended doing a boat tour too, so we found our way to one of the Go Rio Cruises. I’m glad we did, because not only could we see more of the river, but we got to learn about the history of the city and cool hidden gems. We definitely saw things we would never have known to look for otherwise!
The Alamo
When an important historical landmark is in the middle of the city you’re visiting, you have to go, right?! And when I say “in the middle” of the city, I literally mean in the middle. It might have been because it’s location, but right away, we were surprised at how small it was!
If you need a refresher, The Alamo is famous for the 1836 battle that was pivotal in the Texas Revolution. Since then, the former Spanish mission-turned-fortress has been preserved so that visitors can come experience it for themselves. Adam is a huge history buff, so he especially loved reading all of the information posted around the grounds. Plus, it’s completely free! A must stop.
The Pearl
When I asked you guys for restaurant recommendations, I got a few VERY enthusiastic responses about La Gloria at The Pearl. If it wasn’t for those ladies, we would probably just have eaten somewhere along the riverwalk. Instead we had the BEST MEAL of the trip! First of all, the staff was incredibly friendly. They had no idea I was a blogger and the manager still came over to say hi and ask how our meal was. Our waitress loved that we knew we wanted queso fundido and margaritas as soon as we sat down. She’s also the reason I ordered the Dorados Verdes as my entree. Tomatillo salsa dreams! Seriously, some of the best Mexican food I’ve ever had ?
Our cab driver over to The Pearl told us that after we eat, we should go check out Lick Ice Creams for dessert. Turns out their pumpkin pie flavor is amazing. And, it’s made without any artificial colors/flavors, high fructose corn syrup, or preservatives. Win!
After our ice cream, we wandered around and explored more of The Pearl. We could hear music, so we followed the string lights over to a grassy area where a DJ was playing. Even on a weeknight, it was an incredibly vibrant part of San Antonio. I wish we could have seen more during the day, too! Apparently there are also really cute shops and an awesome farmer’s market!
What would you add to your list of San Antonio recommendations?
