5 Things: pH Lip Balms, our favorite sheets, and more!
Hope you all had a lovely Valentine’s Day yesterday! I kicked off the day with some yoga, got a bunch of work done, and then Adam and I made my Risotto with Garlic Shrimp! It was so nice, and exactly how I wanted to celebrate. Did anyone else cook with my playlist on in the background last night?!
To be honest, I have two other Friday roundups in the works right now, but for some reason, they were so hard to finish this week. My roundup on Instant Pot recipes is growing (mostly because of your submissions – THANK YOU!), but I want to try at least one more before that post goes up.
And then my post about the Best Restaurants in Lincoln Square, North Center, and Ravenswood is pretty much good to go, but I don’t have a lot of photos for it! Whenever Adam and I go out on our own dime, I try to sneak a quick pic for stories and then put my phone away. Date nights and time with friends is really important to me – I don’t want to be that girl who is always on her phone!
So next week I’m going try at least one new Instant Pot recipe, and I’m also going to go to one of our favorite restaurants in our neighborhood to take some pretty pictures. Both doable! And because I don’t want to leave you hanging today, I’m bringing back the 5 Things style post I tried out a few weeks ago. Let’s dive in to what I’m loving right now!
Booklinen Sheets
When Adam and I moved in together, we both had very worn-in sheets in random colors. So once we upgraded our bed frame, we realized it was also time to upgrade our sheets. We ended up going with Brooklinen because they were having a Cyber Week sale, and we LOVE them. We also got their lightweight duvet and it’s the perfect weight if you like to snuggle, but you also get warm when you sleep. They’re offering 15% off their site this weekend, so if you’ve been in the market for new sheets, now is a good time to go for it! (image via)
pH Activated Lip Balms
I always like a little color on my lips when I’m out and about, and sometime last year, I discovered Dior Addict Lip Glow. I was instantly obsessed with the fact that it reacts to the unique chemistry of your lips leaving a moisturizing custom color on your lips. Ummm genius!
I still stand by the Dior option, but I’ve also fallen in love with a less expensive option called Winky Lux. I got a press mailer from them a few months ago and I remember wondering if it was just another new company with cute packaging (because it is VERY cute). Turns out, their lip balm also utilizes those pH-activated ingredients, leaving your lips moisturized and perfectly pink! This one is definitely PINK though, so if you want something more subtle, the Dior option might be better. But you all know I’m not afraid of color – so, this $14 Winky Lux balm is my new go to!
Joanna Gaines for Anthropologie
My group text with my best friends was all about this new collab with Joanna Gaines and Anthropologie yesterday. The wallpaper! The RUGS! I know we shouldn’t be surprised it’s great, because everything Joanna Gaines touches turns to gold, but still! I’m swooning over this rug, and I wish we were homeowners solely so I could put this wallpaper in the bathroom ? So pretty!
Button Fly Jeans
This may sound weird, but I’ve never owned a pair of button fly jeans. I always thought they wouldn’t be flattering mixed with an irrational fear of a button popping? I don’t know, guys. All I know is that I bought myself a pair of Everlane’s button fly jeans because I wanted a pair of washed black pants… and now they are my favorite pair that I own. The fit is perfect around the waist and booty, and even though they’re a little long, it’s nothing too noticeable. I’m also considering cutting them so they have a raw hem. Would you guys want a tutorial for that??
Either way, if you’ve been afraid to go for the button fly look, try these. They run TTS and I get compliments from Adam whenever I wear them which is always nice 😉 Also, if you’re looking for a cozy sherpa to climb in after work or the weekends, I treated myself to this pullover (seen here) and it’s so snuggly. Definitely not as sophisticated as the jeans, but it’s winter y’all. Warmth > everything until Spring.
Lil Bucks
I know I’ve mentioned this company before, but let’s really chat about Lil Bucks for a sec! Basically any time you see me eating a yogurt or smoothie bowl, Lil Bucks are on top. My friend Emily started the company after discovering sprouted buckwheat seeds while living in Sydney, Australia. Turns out these crunchy protein-packed little seeds are very popular there, and she quickly became determined to bring their goodness back to the states.
I am such a texture person, so I was actually looking for a healthier crunchy alternative to granola when Emily told me about these. They have WAY less sugar than granola, plus they are raw, vegan, paleo, and a great source of protein. Sprouting the buckwheat seeds releases enzyme inhibitors, which helps our bodies absorb their nutrients and antioxidants better. In other words, if you’re looking for something healthy that adds crunch to your yogurt or smoothie bowls, look no further. I personally love the cacao flavor the best – it’s so good!
Before you go!
I know I’ve already gone through my 5, but I wanted to mention Savor by Shauna Niequist one more time. If you liked the passages I shared on Wednesday in my insta-stories and yesterday on the blog, they both came from this book. It is a devotional, so there’s a passage for each day. I definitely don’t read it every day, but over the few years I’ve had it, I like to pick it up every now and then. Her words always hit me right in the feels, and it makes a great gift!
And one last thing! There are a few President’s Day Sales happening this weekend, in case you’re interested! Have a great weekend everyone!!
