Apple Cider Old Fashioned
Like most TV nerds around my age, I discovered the magic of Old Fashioneds while binge watching “Mad Men.” Oh, everyone on the show is drinking one? Don Draper loves them? Better give it a try! Turns out sugar, water, citrus, bitters and bourbon taste pretty darn good together. I will cheers to that.
So, when I started chatting with ANGOSTURA® bitters about creating a festive cocktail for the holidays, my mind immediately went to the world’s most popular cocktail, the Old Fashioned. After all, it’s my favorite way to use bitters! And after a little bit of brainstorming, I remembered how much I love whiskey and bourbon paired with apple cider… so what if I made an Apple Cider Old Fashioned? YUM.
ANGOSTURA® aromatic bitters
While I’m a huge fan of the traditional Old Fashioned, there are countless delicious twists and creative adaptations of the timeless recipe. No matter what kind of Old Fashioned you’re making, it’s incomplete without the essential ingredient, ANGOSTURA® aromatic bitters. The brand is based on the island of Trinidad, and they’ve been blending their iconic bitters for more than 190 years. 190! How cool is that?! When it comes to bitters, their secret recipe simply can’t be beat. The blend of herbs, spices, fruits and botanicals adds depth and complexity to so many cocktails. It’s specifically been added to the Old Fashioned we know and love dating all the way back to the 1800s, so you know this is the real deal! I even use their orange bitters in my salad dressings – so good!
Since apple cider already has sugar in it, this recipe doesn’t need a sugar cube like a typical Old Fashioned. That means no need for a muddler – or whatever else you use because you don’t actually have a muddler ?
Also, how cute are these glasses? I got them from Alice & Wonder and I’m obsessed! So adorable for holiday parties!
What’s your favorite cold weather cocktail?

Old fashioned’s Are my favorite drink and this was a delicious spin on a classic cocktail. My favorite so far is a cinnamon old fashioned. I make my own cinnamon simple syrup and replace the sugar cube with 1/2 or 3/4 oz (depending on my mood) of the cinnamon simple syrup. It makes a great fall time and festive cocktail!
