Applesauce in a Crockpot Recipe
Use this applesauce in a crockpot recipe and you’ll never go back!
Good afternoon, friends! I truly cannot believe it’s already the last week of October. I mean, if you haven’t made it to a farmers market or apple orchard and purchased way too many apples yet, DO IT NOW!!
And then when you get home with said ‘too many apples’, you can make this applesauce!! I always thought that making homemade applesauce would be difficult, but it seriously couldn’t be easier. All you do is peel and chop your apples, and add it to a crockpot with water, cinnamon sticks, and lemon juice. Let it do it’s thing and then mash it up. That’s IT. The apples melt down so much that you don’t need a blender or immersion blender either – just a fork or the back of a spoon will do. Sounds like you can handle that? Duh! Of course you can!
How to make this Applesauce in a Crockpot Recipe
Ingredients
10-12 apples (Any kind will work, but I like a mix of honeycrisp and gala!)
3/4 cup water
2 cinnamon sticks
1/2 lemon, juiced
Ingredients
1. Peel and chop apples into 1 inch chunks.
2. Add all of them to your Crockpot, along with water, cinnamon sticks, and lemon juice.
3. Cook on high for 3-4 hours.
4. Gently mash the apples with the back of a spoon until the applesauce is your desired consistency. They should break apart very easily. If you prefer a very smooth applesauce, you can also use a blender.
5. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator!
Variations of Applesauce in a Crockpot
Add sweetener
I personally think that this recipe is sweet enough, but if your apples are really tart or you just prefer a sweeter applesauce, there are options! You can add granulated sugar, maple syrup, or honey to sweeten it up.
Add ground cinnamon
Cinnamon sticks give this applesauce a subtle cinnamon flavor, but you can add ground cinnamon, too! You could also add pumpkin pie spice if you have that on hand, too.
Use whatever apples you have
Don’t stress about having the right or wrong apples. The texture and flavor might change a little bit, but it will still be delicious!
