Flirting with a Midi Skirt
Glasses: Tiffany c/o Lumen | Skirt: c/o Banana Republic | Top: Madewell | Bag: c/o Coach | Shoes: Zara (very similar!) |
A midi skirt can be a hard thing to pull off. It’s true. And I’ll be honest, I usually quickly dismiss them when I would see them in stores because I don’t even want to figure out how to make it look good on my body. I’m only 5’2” – that’s not for me! You need to be super tall and skinny and leggy, right?! Well, I can admit when I’m wrong, and it turns out I was wrong!
This midi skirt from Banana Republic is flowy, romantic and the perfect shade of dusty pink. But beyond that, I was shocked at how easily I could style it. First of all, I tucked my tank in and tied that bow was tightly as I could. Gotta define that waist! And second, I got out one of my highest and most lengthening pair of heels to go with it. It’s all about the illusion ? Those two elements, along with the gorgeous color, totally converted me.
I’m also pretty obsessed with my new Tiffany glasses. If you followed that whole insta-story, you know I had a VERY hard time deciding which glasses to get… but when I realized this frame came in tortoise, the choice was clear. They fit my face so well and they feel so much more sophisticated than my last pair. I’m excited to wear them with flirty outfits like this one, instead of just at home in my sweatpants! True life ?
All in all, this look totally surprised me – and it’s fun to get out of your comfort zone every once in a while! Honestly, I felt like I was channeling Roman Holiday a little bit… and who doesn’t want to feel like Audrey Hepburn?!
Speaking of Audrey Hepburn, can we talk for a sec about BIG LITTLE LIES?! I’m still not over it!! The direction, the writing, the plot twists, the ACTING?! I’ve always liked those actresses, but this was next level for me. Please give Nicole Kidman ALL the awards! But for those of you that haven’t watched, I don’t want to give anything away, but I read an article that called the show queasy, gorgeous and smart. Couldn’t agree more.
Did you watch? What did you think?
Petite ladies – do you own a midi skirt? If not, what’s holding you back? And if yes, tell us your secrets!

This is such a pretty look! That midi skirt is the perfect length on you! I’m not a tall, leggy gal either, so I also skip on this length often. I do like the hi-lo hems, and I feel like that’s the closest I’ve come to buying a midi-length skirt or dress. So loving this on you though, and now I’m reconsidering my past dismissals of this style. So chic, Lauren!

I also shy away from the midi length because I’m short, but this skirt fit you perfectly! I love that you shot a girlie skirt in a slightly gritty background too – the photos came out great! I thought the Big Little Lies finale was brilliant! Such good acting!!

Thanks, Caitlin!! Julie had the idea for this backdrop – so fun and different for me! Also, I just started listening to the Big Little Lies soundtrack to deal with my withdrawal haha SO GOOD!
