Q: What is one thing women should be doing as we head into spring and summer?
A: Exfoliating! As we shed our layers of winter clothes we should start to shed all those layers of dead skin cells. Using a jute dry brush every day for 10 minutes will stimulate your skin and help enormously with lymphatic drainage. Start at your bum (or your feet, if you want full body action) and brush briskly toward the heart. Results vary, but if you make this a part of your daily routine, I know you’ll see an improvement. Also, invest in a great facial scrub that isn’t abrasive or make your own using brown sugar, jojoba oil and a drop or two of an essential oil of your choice, or better still brown sugar and honey! Always apply to a damp face, lightly rub into your skin in circular movements and then rinse with cool water. I also love to spritz some cucumber or rose water on my face after for an extra boost and to welcome the warmer months!
Q: Shaving vs. Waxing – What’s better?
A: Obviously I feel waxing is better. In the hands of the right technician waxing will be less abrasive on your skin and you will get smoother results for longer. Shaving can irritate skin and cause knicks that can become portals for bacteria. At the end of the day, you have to pick your poison and what works best for you and your lifestyle. I will say though, in my experience, the longer you wax the less your hair grows back.
Q: We hear celebs are just like us – what are their favorite services at your salon?
A: They absolutely love our wax (we have it shipped in from Italy) and our removal techniques. I would say our top celebrity services are waxing, spray tans, facials, and mani pedis. Toward award season, we see an increase in celebrity requests for enzyme peels – which are fruit enzyme peels that have immediate results. Celebrities are like us, but most don’t want you to know that they spray tan or get their bikinis waxed, so we usually only do house calls for those gals and guys!!
