Drink Good Do Good
It’s no secret that I love fruits and vegetables. I was very lucky to grow up with lots of them around; and while I was definitely a normal kid who thought steamed brussels sprouts smelled gross (honeslty, I still do) – for the most part, I’m really thankful that fresh foods were always a part of my life.
Then, when I heard that nearly 30 million Americans live in food deserts without access to affordable quality and fresh fruits/vegetables, I realized that it’s not just about being grateful that I know how to cook broccoli… it’s about realizing how lucky I’ve been to regularly have produce on my plate. And what makes the rising statistics even more upsettings, is that 60% of Americans don’t actually believe this is an issue at all.
In hopes to gain awareness and do some good, Naked Juice is partnering with Wholesome Wave to provide fresh produce where there is none. They’re kicking off a #DrinkGoodDoGood campaign with a 250,000 pound contribution. But what can YOU do? Well, for every fruit and veggie selfie/instagram tagging #DrinkGoodDoGood, Naked Juice will donate an additional 10 pounds of produce to communities in need. Pretty. Cool.
And for those of you who ARE lucky enough to live near an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables, I urge you to take advantage of it! Knowing that not everyone has access to these goodies makes me appreciate them even more, which is why I’ve vowed to go to the farmer’s market as much as I can until winter starts to roll in.
I shot these photos at the Green City Market in Lincoln Park – if you live in Chicago, you should definitely check it out! They’re open on Wednesdays and Saturdays… and if you go on Saturday you can get killer breakfast pizzas and tamales, too 🙂
Pick up some of these and make my Heirloom Tomato Tart from yesterday!
Hello gorgeous golden raspberries…
Do you guys have a local farmers market you love? Give me all the deets!
Don’t forget to tag #DrinkGoodDoGood on social media – and tag me while you’re at it! I’d love to see how many of you join the good cause!
