Halloween Bark
I’ve been really enjoying the task of updating old posts recently – each one is like a little time capsule that brings me back! For example, my opening paragraph of this one in 2017 started with a bit about how I was ordering a Gryffindor scarf and robe for Halloween ? That was the year our whole friend group dressed up as Harry Potter (or Harry Potter characters) and honestly, it was the best costume idea EVER. We all stayed so warm – and let’s be real, Adam and I now have a dog named after Luna Lovegood. Clearly that was right up our alley!
But moving on to this Halloween Bark! I’ve been making this for YEARS, and it always baffles me how simple it is. For some reason, I always thought homemade bark sounded really intimidating… but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. In just a few short steps, you’ve got an impressive treat!
Halloween Bark Easy Recipe
Ingredients
3 (3.5oz) bars of white chocolate
Pretzel sticks, broken
Oreos, broken
Candy corn
Reese’s Pieces
Ingredients
- Using a double boiler, melt the white chocolate until smooth. If you don’t have a double boiler, simply place a glass bowl over a pot with simmering water. It works the same way!
- When the white chocolate has fully melted, remove from the heat.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Pour the melted chocolate in the middle. Using a spatula spread the chocolate into an even layer.
- Before the chocolate hardens, start adding your toppings! I used pretzel sticks, oreos, candy corn and Reese’s Pieces over the top.
- Place in the fridge and let it set completely – at least 20 minutes.
- Break or cut into pieces and enjoy!
I also love that homemade bark is completely customizable. If you prefer dark chocolate or milk chocolate over white chocolate, that’s totally fine! Just melt chocolate chips or a broken chocolate bar using the same method listed in this recipe.
As for toppings, I wanted to use some Halloween candy for this one to be super festive, but you don’t have to! I don’t actually like candy corn in real life, so when I make this for family or friends, I just leave them out. I also like adding peppermint candy canes in December for a Holiday bark, or nuts and fruit for a “healthier” bark. Seriously, the possibilities are ENDLESS. Here are a few other toppings ideas, so you can make your dream bark 😉
Ideas for Toppings:
Pretzel Sticks
Oreos
Candy Corn
Reese’s Pieces
Walnuts
Almonds
Peanuts
Pepitas
Dried Cranberries
Goji Berries
Apricots
M&Ms
Mini Marshmellows
Sprinkles
Shredded Coconut
Candy Canes
Potato Chips
Are you a fan of Halloween?
Do you dress up every year or do you prefer to sit it out? I’m usually not a big fan, but now that I have nephews, I look forward to it WAY more! Little kids dressed up at Halloween are just about the cutest thing in the world. I already can’t wait for the photos on our family text stream!
As for us, it’s not that I won’t dress up at all. But the older I get, the more I’m interested in costumes that I can create out of things in my closet. Or things I want in my closet 😉 I actually just wrote a whole post all about Halloween Costumes Based on Movies and TV Shows! It was so fun to shop for look-a-like pieces for Midge Maisel, Grace & Frankie, and so many other favorites. Check it out here!

Would you guys like to see how I make a Holiday Bark?
It’s very similar to the famous Peppermint Bark at Williams-Sonoma, except not quite as professional. I try, but I can’t get the chocolate layers to be as perfect as theirs. I don’t mind though – whenever something doesn’t look perfect, I just call it rustic anyway! ? Even though we all like food to be pretty, I don’t ever think it needs to be flawless if it’s just for you and your family. It’s more about the experience of making it, the satisfaction of knowing you created it yourself, and the joy of sharing that with people you love. At least, that’s why I do stuff like this! What about you?
