Healthy Shamrock Shake Recipe
Do you ever wish this St. Patrick’s Day favorite was better for you? Now it is! Scroll down for my healthy shamrock shake recipe below!
Happy March!! With St. Patrick’s Day quickly approaching, I thought it would be fun to re-share this healthy shamrock shake recipe! I worked really hard on this little smoothie recipe last year to make sure that it was Adam approved because let me tell ya, he is the first one to tell me when a “milkshake” with spinach doesn’t taste as good as a real one 😂 Luckily, this version got his stamp of approval – and it is SO much healthier that the McDonald’s milkshake we all know and love. Good for you AND tastes great AND still bright green? Yes, please!!
While it’s great on it’s own, I love topping it with whipped cream to make it feel more like a treat… and it’s also really delicious spiked with a little booze if you want to get your greens in while also starting your celebrations early. No judgement here!! Now we all just have to cross our fingers that it’s patio weather on March 17th! Come on, spring! You can do it!
Healthy Shamrock Shake Recipe
Ingredients
1/2 frozen banana
1/2 cup fresh spinach
1 scoop vanilla protein powder (I like Ritual!)
1/4 cup avocado (I used frozen, but you can use fresh too!)
1/4 tsp peppermint extract
1.5 cups milk of choice
Instructions
1. Add all ingredients to a blender and pulse until smooth.
2. Pour into a glass and top with whipped cream, cacao nibs, mint leaves, and/or chocolate sauce!
Notes about this healthy shamrock shake recipe
Frozen banana is key!
If you want a cold and creamy smoothie, you need to add 1/2 frozen banana – not one sitting on your counter! If you don’t have time to freeze it, you could add some ice too, but I’d recommend using the frozen banana instead.
You can also use frozen avocado.
I used frozen avocado (found at Whole Foods!) because I like to have that on hand for smoothies, but you can definitely use fresh avocado if you have it on hand.
