Italian Turkey Burgers with Caramelized Onions
I spent some time in the burbs this past week, and my Mom and I got to cook this meal together! These turkey burgers are inspired by italian meatballs. Put a big spoonful of caramelized onions on top and who needs a bun?
Ingredients
1 lb ground turkey
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
2 tbsp dried parsley
1 tbsp water
1/2 tsp garlic powder
3 tbsp parmesan or romano cheese
1 egg
provolone cheese
olive oil
1 onion
—
Add ground turkey, breadcrumbs, dried parsley, garlic powder, and parmesan to a bowl. Add one egg and 1 tbsp water. Season with salt and pepper. Mix with your hands until it is all incorporated. If the mixture feels dry, add a little bit more water.
Either with your hands or a patty molder, form the burgers. This recipe makes 4.
Let the burgers set in the refrigerator for at least 20 minutes.
Meanwhile, thinly slice an onion. Saute with olive oil, salt, and pepper over low heat.
Stir occasionally, but let them cook for 20-30 minutes.
Either grill the burgers or cook them on the stove. Make sure they are cooked all the way through!
Top with provolone cheese. Once the cheese is melted, they are ready to serve!
Top with the caramelized onions.
Serve with a kale salad!
Yum!

Yum – looks like a very healthy alternative for your typical cheeseburger. This would be great for the 4th of July!
