Monthly Fitness Recap: December 2017 (+ January Workout Planner!)
I know I do these each month, but this one is WAY more important. Why? Oh yeah, because the planner in this post is for the first month of 2018!! Tis the season for resolutions, fresh starts, and new sweat routines – and downloading my January Fitness Calendar can help you stay on track!
If you’re not into resolutions, here are a few more motivators for me this time of year:
- Try to remember how good it feels to be warm and sweat for 45 minutes-1 hour, when you’re battling the cold for the other 23 hours of the day.
- It’s usually a little slower at work for most people in January. If that’s the case for you, take advantage of that!
- Most social calendars also slow down in January. People go into hibernation mode, or commit to Whole30 – regardless the reason, there are less wild nights in January, which means you can have more productive mornings.
- Instead of working out solely for looks right before bikini season, create these habits NOW. It will help you take the focus off of how you look and instead shine a light on your health. As I say in this body image post, it’s about how you feel more than anything!
And now back to regularly scheduled programming:
December Goals
I wanted to get to at least one class in between Christmas and New Years – I’ve already been to two and I’m planning to go to one today. AND if I go tomorrow before my flight, I’ll meet my 16 class goal for the month!
December Obstacles
The holiday craziness is no joke, guys! There were a lot of long days, plus the colder temps don’t make it easier to get out there.
# of Workouts Completed
15 as of today, hopefully 16 as of tomorrow. I’m also planning on going on at least one hike in Scottsdale this weekend!
Corepower Yoga:
I went 5 times this month and I’m finding more and more teachers that I like again. Phew! I’m also practicing a little bit at home again – rolling out my mat and taking myself through a flow. I’ll talk about this more in an upcoming post, but finding a love for the practice again has made me realize that I really want to try to teach again in 2018…
Orangetheory:
I went 3 times this month and I’ve raised my push pace and all out speeds on the treadmill in each class! I also burned 703 calories in one class, and over 600 in the other two! Getting stronger!
Flybarre/Arms & Abs:
I went 4 times this month – I told you that was my sweet spot! I’ve also noticed a big difference in these classes since adding Orangetheory to my fitness routine. I’m able to do a lot of the harder modifications, hang on to the heavier weights, and feel less sore after classes. I’ve also started doubling up by taking both Flybarre and Flywheel on Saturday or Sunday mornings – talk about the perfect combo!
Flywheel:
I went to 2 Flywheel classes and I figured out the key to getting me there – go to Flybarre first! You guys know I love Flybarre, so that gets me in the door, and getting in the door is the hardest part for me sometimes. I’ve discovered that I always feel motivated after barre, especially because it doesn’t make me super sweaty… so adding another 45 minutes of cardio feels like a natural progression. It’s my new favorite weekend activity!
Tone It Up:
As I mentioned above, the holiday craziness was no joke and committing to walking to and from a studio, attending a full class, and showering/getting ready after wasn’t always in the cards. Enter Tone It Up! I did their Booty Burn & Tricep Toner Workout video and I felt like I didn’t miss out that day. Convenience is key sometimes!
Want to track your workouts with me?
Yay! All you need to do is download my January Fitness Calendar and print it out! I like to fill in the “Planned” portion one week out, when I really have an idea of what I have time for. Then fill in every workout you complete and feel more and more like a BOSS each time ? Need some challenges to really get you into this though? Keep scrolling down to read mine…
January Challenges
Complete 20 workouts
I have a feeling I’m going to regret setting this goal ? But I’m going to listen to the tips I listed out at the beginning of this post and at least try to make it happen!
Keep going to cardio classes
My speeds are getting faster at Orangetheory and Flywheel… just have to keep pushing!
Create yoga flows and practice teaching
Since I’d love to teach again in 2018, I want to recommit to creating my own yoga flows when I have some spare time. I can create something to practice on my (very) beginner of a boyfriend – and I can create some harder ones for my own self-practice.
What are your goals for the new year?
*This post is NOT sponsored. I have received complimentary classes to each of these studios, but I chose to talk about them here on the blog on my own.

Love the warmth inspiration! I’m looking forward to setting goals for 2018. In 2017 I averaged 2.5 workouts per week, which as a working mom I’m proud of! I’m hoping to aim for a 3x/week average in 2018!

Umm as a working Mom, that’s an AMAZING average! Get it, Katie!

Thanks for sharing the planner. I am totally going to utilize it! Hoping for a steady 3xs per week for now.
