LSL and Epic Burger Instagram Contest
Q: Tell me how Epic Burger began.
A: David Friedman, founder and Chief Concept Officer of Epic Burger, attended the Culinary Institute of America and has worked in the foodservice industry for over 25 years. He has been an executive chef, nightclub and restaurant owner, corporate chef, research and development chef and a consultant to numerous restaurant chains and food manufacturers. After working in food labs and manufacturing facilities, and gaining an understanding of processed foods, Friedman knew that he needed to get back to his roots and start working with real food again. That was the beginning of an idea that would become Epic Burger.
Q: But why burgers?
A: David has a desire to raise your food IQ. Burger/Fast Food restaurants typically aren’t good for you at all, so Epic Burger introduces an all-natural, non-processed option with the simplest and purest ingredients. This proves that any food can be all natural, especially burgers! It’s easily accessible and it doesn’t scare people off in the same way that “healthy food” does sometimes. Instead of only reaching people who normally seek out healthy options, Epic Burger puts it in front of people who wouldn’t normally think about it. All natural the all american way!
Q: The menu isn’t very big – why is that? Where do your ingredients come from?
A: Less is more! Fast food chains use so many ingredients, but we want you to know exactly what you are eating. There are only 60 ingredients in the whole kitchen and that includes oil for cooking and the ingredients that go in the chicken marinade, smoothies/shakes, buns and epic sauce. We get our meat from small farmers in the U.S. who believe in humanely treating and harvesting animals. The cattle is harvested at Creekstone Farms where Dr. Temple Grandin designed the entire process from birth to processing to make sure that the animals are handled compassionately.
Q: I hear you are involved in “urban farming.” What does that mean?
A: We have an Epic Urban Farming Program, which is open to everyone within Epic Burger. We do this through a partnership with a local farming group called Growing Power. It’s pretty amazing what they’ve been able to achieve with such limited dollars and resources. It gives our employees a chance to heighten their food IQ and volunteer their time for a good cause, that’s close to our own purpose and values.
Q: What kind of person would like Epic Burger?
A: Epic Burger can relate to everyone. Anyone from a pregnant woman craving a burger, to those who are health conscious, to families, vegetarians (Portobello Sandwich), paleo (Bunless Burger), or just someone who likes good food!
Q: What do you wish more people knew about Epic Burger?
A: There’s a misconception that all-natural means expensive, but we are a really good value.
Q: To recap, what would you say is Epic Burger’s mission?
A: We help to create a more mindful world by serving people the food they love, nourishing them in mind, body & spirit. We sell all natural hamburgers, fries and shakes at a reasonable price in an environmentally-sensitive way.
