‘Majesty’ by Katharine McGee + My Book Club Pick for October!
Happy Friday, friends! To be completely honest, I almost forgot about this month’s book club post – but that’s just because I flew through my pick before our move! In my head, that was months ago, but in reality it was just a few weeks ? Woops! Let’s dive in…
about the book: Majesty
Majesty is the second book in Katharine McGee’s American Royals series. If you’ve been following me for a while, American Royals was the first book I read by Katharine and I was OBSESSED when I first read it. It was one of those books that was a pure delight from start to finish. It was creative and interesting (I mean, what IF George Washington became King instead of President?!) and all of the plot lines were super juicy. That being said… I think I liked Majesty even more.
The book picks up after the King has passed away, which makes his daughter Beatrice America’s first Queen. This shifts pretty much everything that we learned in book one… even more than I thought it would. I had ideas of what might happen in this book, and I loved that Katharine gave the characters different plot lines and love interests that I didn’t see coming. Because honestly, that’s how life goes in your early 20s. It’s never as you plan it!
I also really really appreciated how Katharine brought in relevant topics like race and sexism into this world. They may be in an altered reality, but I loved that she didn’t shy away from the fact that sometimes you need to ruffle some feathers in order to progress the country forward. 2020 has made that very clear in our world, too ?. Overall, I can’t recommend both books enough and I’m already dying for the 3rd one!

my book club pick for October is…
The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett! This book has gotten a ton of praise this year, and it deserves every bit of it. Who is going to read it with me?!
