Happy Monday, friends! Not going to lie, I’m really sad this weekend is over! Friday was Adam’s actual birthday, so we celebrated with his family and TONS of friends all night. And after sleeping off more than a few drinks, the festivities continued on Saturday! We drove out to the suburbs and my parents cooked up their famous tomato sauce with crab legs… seriously SO. GOOD. Snuggling with their golden puppy, playing with my nephew, hanging out with the fam, and singing Happy Birthday to Adam one last time this year made for a pretty nice day. Then we went to church and brunch yesterday before I headed back to the city. Not a bad Easter weekend, right?
But on to this outfit! Basically, this is exactly what I wish I could have worn yesterday. If only the weather was about 30 degrees warmer ? But in all seriousness, Spring is just around the corner and we will be able to wear these kinds of dresses soon. And my question is – do you already have versatile dresses hanging in your closet, or is that something you’re looking for?
I always get so excited when I find a great versatile dress. Maybe it’s because we went to 8 weddings last year, and that’s not including bridal showers, baby showers and rehearsal dinners! Finding dresses that I can wear to those kinds of events, but ALSO wear to work or on the weekends, is no easy feat. So when I find one that fits that description, I know it’s a good investment.
What I look for in a versatile dress:
- Conservative length that is still flattering.
- Classic silhouette.
- Solid color, or simple pattern (like stripes or polka dots).
- Good quality.
- Can dress up with high heels or dress down with sandals.
- Can think of at least 4 occasions for the dress in one year. (Ex: rehearsal dinner, work event, bridal shower, dinner date)
I’ve also recently become a big fan of the trench coat! I always used to discount them because all of them made me feel like I was playing dress up as Carmen Sandiego ? But I decided to give them another shot, and I finally understand the appeal! It’s a great neutral, I love that you can cinch your waist, and a lot of them are super affordable! I know that mine has limited sizing now, but here are a few others I like…
