Merry Christmas Eve!!! Before I offically break for the holiday, I wanted to get this post up all about New Year’s Eve looks because, let’s be real – it can be hard to figure out what to wear!! NYE outfits are so dependent on what you’re actually doing to celebrate, and it’s hard to live in Chicago and not think about what’s practical for the weather 😂 So today, I’ve got 3 different looks for 3 different types of celebrations + links to other ideas in different price ranges. I hope you find this helpful as you figure out how to ring in the new decade in style!
New Year’s Eve Outfit Ideas for a Cocktail Party
Dress: Reformation (Also available in petite and at Nordstrom! Runs TTS – I’m wearing a regular size 2.) | Earrings: c/o Kendra Scott | Bag: Rebecca Minkoff (I’ve had this bag for YEARS and it’s still one of my favorites!) I Heels: Calvin Klein (These are my go-to black pumps – such good quality for only $100!)
So you’re going to a cocktail party on New Year’s and you want to look festive and fun… but you also don’t want to buy something solely for this party. I feel ya. For this type of New Year’s, I say go for something that you feel GREAT in. That way, you can celebrate New Year’s in it, but you’ll also reach for it whenever you have a winter wedding or gala event to go to! I wore this dress to my friend’s wedding last month and I’d totally wear it again to a New Year’s soiree!

New Year’s Eve Outfit Ideas For a House Party or Casual Drinks
Top: Reformation (Runs TTS but a little long in the sleeves. Selling out quickly, but there are a lot of other great top options below!) |Earrings: c/o Kendra Scott | Jeans: Madewell (Old, but this is a similar style without rips!) | Pumps: old (VERY similar here!) | Bag: Rebecca Minkoff
In this scenario, your friends are having some people over to their home or you’re meeting a few friends for dinner or at a bar that DEFINITELY doesn’t have a wristband deal 😂 You want to feel fun… but not toooo extra. Maybe there’s an open back or some fun sequins, but you can still wear your favorite jeans and feel comfortable. If this is you, I apologize that my top keeps selling out because I’m OBSESSED with it. Luckily, I found a bunch of other awesome options for you below!

New Year’s Eve Outfit Ideas For A Night On The Town
Dress: BB Dakota (I can’t believe this dress is still in stock! I wore it to my Mom’s surprise birthday party and it’s still on sale for $50 in a bunch of sizes. I have a size 2!) | Faux Fur Coat: c/o Talbots (I’m SO sad that this sold out, because it is SO SOFT! I love this one and this one too though!) | Tights: c/o Sheertex (They say that these are unbreakable, and I am SO impressed so far. I always rip my tights within the first few wears and these are still going strong. Love!) | Booties: old (Very similar here!)
Why stay in when you could go OUT?! This section is for the people going to a River North bar or a fun NYE concert – or you just want to dress up in sequins because when else do we get to do that?! Since our plans don’t involve anything fancy this year, I didn’t invest in something NYE specific, but this dress still feels fun enough for a night out on the town – especially when paired with some faux fur 😉
