My favorite picks from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Catalog + important dates!
Alright, let’s talk about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. It’s no secret that this sale is pretty polarizing… but with the pandemic, that’s amplified even more. So before we dive in to sale coverage, I just want to let you know my personal thoughts (plus some of your feedback!).
The vast majority of Americans are worried about their finances this year. To some, that means we should absolutely not be shopping a sale. Why spend money needlessly when it is very likely that we will all be homebound throughout fall and winter in order to stay safe? I hear you loud and clear, friend!
BUT on the flip side, if you DO need or want a closet refresh, doesn’t it make sense to get the items at a steep discount? Maybe you really need a new pair of sneakers or winter coat! Those are really practical sale items to get. And I’m sure I’m not the only one who realized that I only had ratty old sweatpants and pajamas these past few months. You know what makes quarantining a little bit better? A super soft new pajama set!
My point is, I understand both sides of this. If you don’t need anything that’s marked down this year and want to save money – LOVE THAT! But if a new workout top will bring you joy, I LOVE THAT, TOO! My goal is to be a resource for those who want it can get sale info, without overwhelming or pressuring you.
Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Catalog: Early Access
When is the sale starting and when can I shop?
I have Insider status, so I will be able to shop early access starting on August 13th. If you want to join me, all you have to do is sign up for a Nordstrom credit card. (You can get a Visa for purchases anywhere or one that is just for Nordstrom!) Nordstrom cardholders can earn points/rewards when they shop, as well as get perks like anniversary sale early access. I have the retail card and definitely recommend it! The other tiers below are based on how much money you spend at Nordstrom each year. Note: Influencer status is one of their levels, not when bloggers shop.
If you can’t shop for a while, I’d still recommend looking through this post and creating a Wish List within your Nordstrom profile. That way, you can easily shop online when when the sale goes live for you. Just add the items you want from your wish list to your cart! A few things might sell out by the time the sale opens to the public (that will start on August 19), but they usually try to restock the popular items.
Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Catalog
To prep for this post, I spent some time sifting through the entire preview catalog online (there’s no need to get your hands on the 2020 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale print catalog this year!). Here’s my take. This isn’t the most exciting selection in the world… but honestly, is it ever? This sale isn’t meant to blow your mind, it’s meant to help you stock up on NEW items that you need or want for fall/winter at a discount. In my opinion, the best categories this year are activewear, loungewear/sleepwear, beauty, work from home basics, outerwear and shoes.
Work From Home Wear
I know “work from home wear” is super vague – and it absolutely depends on what type of job you have. I basically wanted to create a section for things like basics, sweaters, and jeans. Nothing too fancy, but nothing that will make you look like a slouch 😉
I love this new Madewell blouse so much! You can wear it with leggings for Zoom calls from home for now, and then next year, you can tuck into a cute skirt to wear to the office. So versatile.
Speaking of leggings, this pair is high waisted AND it comes in PETITE! Wahoooooo!
This sweater is the epitome of cozy work from home vibes. I want it in every color!
Madewell makes some of my favorite jeans, and I’m in love with the frayed detail on this pair. If you’re the kind of person who needs to put on real pants to feel productive (but you still want to be comfortable!) these are a great option under $100.
Just looking for a good old fashioned crew neck sweater? This one will never go out of style – and it has 4 great color options.
This category wasn’t particularly mind blowing, but if you could use a new coat, there are some nice options this year!
I’m really hoping this shearling jacket doesn’t sell out before I can shop because it looks SO COZY for walks with Luna!
HOW PRETTY IS THIS COLOR?! Ahhh swoon! If you find yourself wishing you had an “inbetween” option every fall, this coat is a great option.
This is another great option if that pretty Barbour coat is over your budget. I love that there’s a belt!
Need a new winter coat? Patagonia always makes great quality coats that are both warm and sustainable. And they rarely go on sale, so now is a good time to buy.
I’m not into shoes this year just because I have what I need… but if you need new rain boots, winter boots, or sneakers, I’d definitely take a look!
I’ve had my Hunter boots for years and there’s a reason why so many people have them. They’re great quality and last forever. Both tall and short boots are on sale right now! (You can read my post all about their sizing here!)
I have a friend who owns these sneakers and RAVES about them. I mean, waterproof sneakers are SO practical in a city like Chicago. And they’re 50% off!!!
If I had to choose my favorite category this year, activewear would be it. Working out each day has been a saving grace of quarantine for me. If you feel the same way, I think you’ll like these picks!
OMG how gorgeous are these sneakers in gold?! I’m obsessed!
Alo Crop Top, Leggings, and Sweatshirt
Beyond Yoga is another popular brand that can get a little pricey. I personally LOVE the items I have by them, so I was psyched to see them included in the sale! This square neck is so chic for a workout top, and I’m very tempted by these shiny leggings. How cute would they be with an oversized sweater, too?!
Want leggings for less? Zella has great quality leggings – and they’re marked down to $35 for the sale!
The best socks ever – period. And they give a pair for every pair sold!
Loungewear, Sleepwear & Intimates
Since we’re all in loungewear and sleepwear WAY more than usual now, this is a great time to freshen up those drawers! It’s also a good time to get high quality bras and underwear. (For example, I loooove my Commando thong but it’s stupid expensive normally. The NSale makes it much more reasonable!)
These are my FAVORITE summer pajamas. They are super soft and lightweight – and they’re only $29 on sale! I’m definitely going to try to get the long pair for fall/winter on sale this year! (I have a size small.)
Everyone and their mother wanted a tie dye sweatsuit for quarantine, right?! Now is our chance!!!!
I got these shorts last year and they are crazy soft. They are perfect to wear to bed with your old favorite college tee.
At only $24, I am majorly eyeing this hoodie. It looks so cozy for those chilly morning walks with Luna – and it comes in 3 colors!
I LOVE this thong, but like I said – it’s full price is quite expensive for underwear. Luckily, this sale brings it down to $13, which is totally worth it. They’re super smoothing, they don’t show under clothes, and they don’t budge either. Such a good buy.
I usually roll my eyes at the Barefoot Dreams craze since we already own blankets that are plenty cozy… but these SOCKS are a different story. Just looking at them makes me want to snuggle up with a cup of tea and a good book!
If you like skincare and haircare, there are some GEMS in the beauty category this year.
We’ve been using Supergoop! sunscreen this summer and it is seriously the best. It’s non-toxic, reef friendly, and it’s not sticky or greasy.
One of the products I always shout about during the Sephora sales is my Olaplex hair mask – and now you can get their hair mask + their shampoo and conditioner for $84 TOTAL. That’s a $126 value.
Curious what all the Tula hype is about? This set is actually a great place to start. It includes what I think are their 3 best products: cleanser, face filter primer, and brightening eye balm. I feel like there’s a ton of skepticism around Tula because so many bloggers talk about them, but I truly LOVE those 3 products. (If you only want the primer, aka my all time fave, you can also get it from their website and use code LAKESHORELADY for a discount 😉)
I know this is super indulgent, but hear me out. I have super thin hair that can easily break with normal hair ties. These scrunchies are SO gentle and barely even leave a crease. They are magical. There’s also a sale on silk pillowcases by the same brand. I don’t have those, but I wear their eye mask every. single. night.
I’ve been stalking the NuFace for a long time now. While I’m not into botox, I would totally do something like this at home – especially since it has so many great reviews!
I hope that was helpful for you guys!!! I’ll keep an eye out for any additions – and there will also be some more category-specific posts coming next week when more of us can shop, too. I honestly don’t know what I’m going to purchase yet, but I will try to take advantage of pickup options or overnight shipping when I’m allowed to shop so I can get a mini try on up for you. Thanks for hanging with me through this weird corona-version of sale coverage!!!
