Monthly Fitness Recap: October 2017
Before we dive in, I have to apologize for starting this series in August and then totally skipping September. Seriously, I’m so sorry I did that ? But I’m back with an October recap and November Workout Planner download and I won’t miss one again!! PINKY PROMISE.
I’m sure you caught on to this, but the end of September/beginning of October was nuts. Work was crazy, we went to Scottsdale for an industry conference, I went on quick trips to Grand Rapids and San Diego, and then we spent a week in Texas. (more on that coming soon!) Keeping up with everything – blog posts, workouts, friends – it can be tough while traveling! And even though I had every intention of taking advantage of the hotel gyms in Texas, once I heard about my Uncle, I knew that sleep was more important.
That being said, I’ve really tried to get back in the groove since coming back to Chicago – which is hard and great at the same time. There’s something about those first workouts after time off that’s super humbling. You’re not quite as sharp, the exercises hurt a little more, you’re crazy sore in a way you forgot you could be… and now that I’m not traveling for a while, I’m super motivated to get back into a solid routine.

September and October Goals:
Complete as many workouts as possible when in Chicago.
September and October Obstacles:
One of my best friends’ wedding weekend, a few days in Grand Rapids, a long weekend in San Diego, and a week in Texas.
# of Workouts Completed: 14 in September and 9 in October
Corepower Yoga:
I went 3 times in September and 2 times in October, and I’m finally feeling inspired at yoga again! As many of you know, I kind of burned myself out after teacher training. I’m glad I took a step back though, because now I’m super excited to get back to my mat in November.I even took Adam to C1 with me last weekend and I was literally the happiest girl EVER ❤️ It doesn’t hurt that my local studio added a bunch of extra C2 classes at great times… I know how I’ll be warming up this winter!
Orangetheory:
I went 6 times in September and 2 times in October. I had planned on only going to OT once a week, but I guess I got super motivated last month! I think it’s because I knew I couldn’t work out as often as I’d like to, so might as well make it count when I can, right?! These classes still kick my booty, and I kind of hate it when it’s happening (those treadmills and rowers!), but I’m starting to feel better and better about them. These classes are definitely a new staple in my routine. I’m not throwin in the towel anytime soon!
Flybarre/Arms & Abs:
I went 4 times each month, which cracks me up. Apparently, I just needed the same amount of barre fix both months! Really though, I can’t stay away from these classes. The teachers make it SO fun, it goes by super fast, and I feel my muscles engage and get stronger every time. I think that’s a huge reason why I keep coming back.
Flywheel:
I only went to one Flywheel class, you guys! One of my November goals is to do more cardio, so hopefully that’s the kick I need to get there more.
Treadmill and Abs:
When I was in Scottsdale for work, I took advantage of a free morning and went to the hotel gym. I haven’t done a workout like this on my own in SO LONG! While it was a little weird, I was proud of myself! I did an interval series on the treadmill, followed by some mat work with an ab/pushup series I used to do back when I went to the gym all the time. I still prefer having a teacher push me to work harder, but I’m glad I can still make it happen on my own.
Want to track your workouts with me?
Yay! All you need to do is download my November Workout Planner and print it out! I like to fill in the “Planned” portion one week out, when I really have an idea of what I have time for. Then fill in every workout you complete and feel more and more like a BOSS each time ? Need some challenges to really get you into this though? Here are mine…
November Challenges:
Complete at least 18 workouts
The Holidays are quickly approaching – now is the time!
Attend at least 5 cardio classes
This is what I dread the most – hence the challenge ?
Get to class as much as possible the week after Thanksgiving
Gotta burn off that pumpkin pie!
When in doubt, go to yoga
Even if I’m tired or sore, I want to start getting to my mat more.
What are your November goals?

I have received complimentary classes to each of these studios, but I chose to talk about them here on the blog on my own.
