While We Wait for Spring

Okay, I know we started this week with a snowstorm. And I know it’s hard to get excited about warmer temps when it’s freezing out. But here’s the thing: Spring IS coming! The white stuff on the ground might make it feel otherwise, but we’re halfway through March and it’s time to start looking forward to the city blooming again! While I wait for it to actually feel like it, here’s what I plan on doing…
Enjoy the longer days!
HOW nice is it that you can walk out of work or an evening workout and it’s still light out?! In the winter, I want to stay in for the night as soon as the sun starts to go down. The time change gives me a new surge of motivation – in fitness, but also in general productivity! Plus, it helps me be more social. True story: it’s so much easier to put on something cute and head out the door for happy hour when the sun is still shining.
Buy a few new spring items.
If you’re the kind of person who hates buying summer clothes while it’s still snowing… I’m with you. As soon as I get something new, I want to wear it right away! That being said, picking up a few transitional pieces (like this pink cold shoulder top by Amanda Uprichard) adds some new life to my wardrobe. I wore this on one of our randomly warm days, but even if it’s cold out, I could throw a wool coat on top and it still works!
Wear brighter colors.
Yes, this piggy backs off of my last point – but tell yourself to stop wearing black and grey and pull out the pinks, blues, purples, and reds instead! Swap out your dark nail polish for a fun bright color. Have some fun!
Look forward to the new beginning!
We’ve had a few warmer weekends recently, and it felt so good to walk away from my desk, disconnect and go for long walks outside… without thinking about what I could be getting done instead. Those days have made me realize how much of a workaholic I’ve become, especially in the winter months. This Spring, I want to refocus on experiencing things – more walks, more long brunches on patios, more afternoons exploring neighborhoods, more reading a book in the sunshine, more cooking for fun with the windows open and music on loud. (I’ll deep dive more into this in another post ?)
Side note: this necklace is adjustable and it’s my new favorite! I’ve worn it with so many different outfits (including this dress!) and it always adds a little something extra to the look. Highly recommend!
Also, if you’re not a pink gal, this cold shoulder top also comes in black and ivory. I’m a big fan – it’s comfortable, flirty, and super transitional. I could easily wear this with booties instead of pumps to make it more snow friendly. Any way you style it, it’s so fun for dinner or drinks out!
*Now in gingham!
How do you guys deal with this end of winter/almost spring time? Looking forward to anything in particular?
