Why You Should Wear Things That Make You Happy
We’ve all had that moment when you love something you don’t NEED. Do I need this printed jungle dress with a cutout and high slit? Absolutely not! Did I fall in love with it as soon as I put it on? Guilty. Did it feel great when I came out of the room and Adam said “wow”? Well yes, it surely did! Am I keeping it? DUH.
Keep reading for my reasoning beyond these surface questions… I’m not trying to be a shopping enabler, I promise ?
Shop the look:
Dress: Reformation (Wearing a size 2 and it fits like a glove! It’s a little longer on me than it should be because I’m only 5’1”, but it works!) | Necklace: Vrai & Oro | Clutch: J.Crew (old, but love this fun one) | Shoes: J.Crew (LOVE this velvet pair for Fall/Winter, too!) | Sunglasses: Loft
Listen. Shopping can be hard. I often struggle with my body image just like most of you do. And even though I take a lot of photos of myself, that doesn’t mean I’m always thrilled with how I look in everything I put on. I think about angles that are the most flattering for my arms. Or I hold my purse over my thighs. Or I avoid tight dresses if I’ve indulged within the past few days. But every once in a while, a dress comes along that makes you feel like a million freaking dollars and all of those insecurities go away. And that’s how this dress makes me feel.
First of all, I think this jungle print is the best kind of playful. It’s unique and interesting in a way that still feels totally classic. And honestly, I could say that exact same thing about the fit, too. At the heart of it, it’s just a wrap dress! But add a square halter neck and a subtle cutout detail, and all of a sudden it’s fresh and new.
But beyond any detail, this fun flamingo-printed jungle dress just makes me happy. And shouldn’t that be enough sometimes?! Now, I’m not telling you to buy everything that makes you smile and extend yourself outside of your means. I repeat, this is NOT your excuse to buy everything in sight ? But I do think that a lot of us tend to overthink “style” and “fashion.” Is this stylish enough? Is this what people expect me to wear? Will people be impressed?
Come on, we’ve all had those thoughts. It’s not just a blogger thing – I know it! So let today be a reminder to wear whatever brings you joy. It doesn’t matter if it’s from last season or if your Mom hates rips in jeans or if it’s a wacky color. If it makes you happy, throw it on! I bet you’ll rock it.
Do any of your clothes make you happy?
Tell me all about them – doesn’t matter if they are fancy, casual, new, or years and years old! To be honest, I have a bunch that are a lot more “everyday” than this dress… but I figured this was a fun way to get this point across ?
