If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, then you probably already know that I attended the Simply Stylist event here in Chicago on Saturday. This event. was. awesome.
I am so glad that I took the plunge and attended, because I haven’t felt so empowered in a long time. Simply Stylist put together a panel of some of the most independent, driven, and inspiring women from the fashion and beauty industry. These women shared their journeys with us, their struggles and successes, and how they kept pushing to get where they wanted to be. It reminded me that I really want to fight for a life that I am passionate about. Don’t you?
Catt Sadler of E! News was the host and was lovely as can be. Other panelists included Stacey Roney, founder of Glossed and Found, and Tia Dantzler, makeup artist to the stars. The hilarious Trish Townsend was also on the panel, and she told us all of her funny stories about Blake Shelton’s Nashville style and Carrie Underwood’s fat days. (I know, right?! Carrie has fat days? Pleeease.) She shared her insight into the styling world, telling us that a small percentage of it is actually about fashion; a lot of it is psychology and budget. Even when you are styling gorgeous country stars!
Corri McFadden, founder of E Drop Off was the big surprise for me. I knew who she was, but she blew me away with her transparency and willingness to share her story. A few of my favorite quotes from her:
“When you do what you love, success comes.”
“Nothing is quick and easy – it doesn’t exist.”
“You become truly successful when you grow as a person.”
And then, one of my favorite bloggers, Jacey Duprie from Damsel in Dior was on the panel. I got to geek out a little bit, ask her questions in her smaller breakout session, and drool over her Valentino Rockstud Pumps. “If you wake up every day and you aren’t excited to be doing what you’re doing, you should not be doing it.” It seems so simple, right? Her confidence, encouragement, and advice was so motivating. She talked about owning it if you are a blogger- be proud and confident of your work! I also loved her key to personal style: always keep in mind the 3 words that best represent you and your brand. I’m working on narrowing my style down to three words. It’s harder than you think!
