Sunday Spotlights 70
The outfit above is linked in this blog post!
Hello friends. I never know how to start blog posts when the world feels heavy, like it does right now.
Like all of you, I have been horrified by Russia’s attacks on Ukraine over the past few days. My heart breaks for all of the people hiding underground, the newborn babies in bomb shelters, families scrambling to flee their homes at moments notice… it makes me want to cry just thinking about the videos and images we’ve seen this week. It doesn’t feel like enough to say “I stand with Ukraine”, so I’ve included a few resources/ways to help in the links below.
Unfortunately, this helpless feeling isn’t entirely new.
Once again, we’re faced with a strange dilemma: how do we continue on with our routines and work and normal life at at a time like this? But on the flip side, how do we not? We all cope with difficult news differently. We also all have responsibilities and deadlines. People (or small children, or pets!) are counting on us.
And maybe most importantly, we still need to take care of ourselves. But please know, if that’s hard for you right now, you are most definitely not alone. Try to take breaks from the news and doom-scrolling on social media from time to time. Move your body (even if it’s just a short walk). Take deep breaths. I’m sending a big virtual hug to all of you.

I used to work with an amazing woman who grew up in Ukraine, and she has been sharing a little bit about her family’s experience who is still there, along with a TON of helpful information and resources. She posted this link tree that will take you to information about rallies/protests, instructions for how to write to and call your elected officials, fact sheets, and multiple links for reputable places you can donate to.
She also shared Brene Brown’s post about Together Rising, an organization I have donated to in the past. They have committed to sending an initial $250,000 to Ukraine via World Jewish Relief and Direct Relief – $150,000 of which is already there in the form of medical supplies, food, cash, and medical support. Click here to donate.
While I haven’t met Olga in real life, I also highly recommend follow Chicago-based influencer, @echo_mass. She grew up in Ukraine and is currently there with her family. Check out her “Ukraine” highlight to see her first-hand account of what is happening over there, along with information and ways to help. I am praying for you every day, Olga.
One/Third (founded by another Chicago blogger, Anna!!) launched presale for their latest jacket and it is cuuuuute! I’ve been wanting to purchase one of their designs to support this local biz, and this might be the one!
This is how emotional exhaustion might be showing up in your body.
I’m lusting after this maxi dress for spring. So versatile!
After dealing with some gut issues recently, along with feeling really blah and gaining my pandemic weight back, I enrolled in a Gut Makeover Course with Shannon Dolan and it has been really helpful and I’m still only on Week 2!
One of the things I’m learning about myself is that I need to gain control of my blood sugar – and this podcast episode of Healthier Together blew my mind! It was so eye opening, I followed @glucosegoddess on Instagram and pre-ordered her book immediately!
Ummm this color changing blush oil reacts to your skin’s natural pH to create your perfect shade for a natural flush. WHAT?! I’m going to order it and I’ll report back.
Saks is offering 20% off sitewide right now which… never happens. You can see my top picks here, including my wedding shoes in gold and a slightly different version with an ankle strap in platinum, like mine! (They also have white, too!)
The threats against trans rights in Texas is taking a mental and emotional toll. “The state leadership has said, ‘We would rather see dead children … instead of happy, loved, supported, thriving trans kids that are alive and well.’ ” It’s heartbreaking.
On a similar note, Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill is cruel and dangerous. When discussing these topics. please be very aware of dehumanizing language. These words affect REAL people.
If you need some laughter in your life, I can’t get enough of @carloandsarah. They are the best!
