The Best Ground Turkey Lettuce Wraps
These ground turkey lettuce wraps are the perfect weeknight meal!
Hey friends! I developed this recipe for ground turkey lettuce wraps YEARS ago, but it is still one of my all time favorites because it is incredibly fast and easy to make. Yes, that means that you can whip it up on even your busiest weeknights! And with only one pan needed dishes are a breeze, too. You’re welcome!!
It might look like you need a lot of ingredients for this ground turkey lettuce wraps recipe, but once you buy everything once, they last a while – and now I just have all of these things stocked up at all times! Things like soy sauce, hoisin, and rice vinegar are great to have on hand for other recipes anyway. And to make it even easier, I keep a stir-in ginger paste in the fridge so I don’t have to buy and chop fresh ginger each time I want to make this. Just squeeze and move on. IDEAL!

Ground Turkey Lettuce Wraps
Ingredients
1 pound ground turkey
2 tbsp soy sauce
1.5 tbsp sriracha
4 tbsp hoisin sauce
1 tbsp rice vinegar
1 tsp sesame oil (optional)
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 small onion, chopped
1 tbsp fresh ginger, minced
3 green onions, chopped
1 can water chestnuts, chopped
1/2 tbsp olive oil
1 head butter or boston lettuce
Instructions
- Chop onion, garlic, and ginger. Set aside.
- In a small bowl whisk hoisin sauce, soy sauce, sriracha, rice vinegar, and sesame oil together. Set aside.
- Heat 1/2 tbsp of olive oil in a large nonstick pan. Add ground turkey. Saute over medium high heat, breaking the meat up as it cooks.
- When the meat starts to brown on the bottom (but still a little pink), add chopped onion, and minced garlic and ginger.
- Saute for 5 minutes, until the onions start to soften.
- Add the sauce and water chestnuts to the meat mixture. Stir to combine and let the sauce thicken for another 3-5 minutes.
- Stir in chopped green onions, cook 1 minute longer, and turn the heat off. The turkey should be cooked, the onions should be soft, and the sauce should coat all of the ingredients.
- Wash the lettuce leaves and spoon the mixture into each leaf. Enjoy!
Lettuce Wrap Variations
While I love this recipe as it is below (if I do say so myself!), you can definitely make some variations! If you don’t have any of these sauces at home, it might feel like a lot of ingredients, but I pretty much always have them in my fridge/pantry, which means this requires very little groceries whenever we want to make it. Plus, they last a long time, so you can make this recipe over and over before you need to stock up again! That being said, you can definitely make do with less/other ingredients. Here are a few ideas…
Use any ground meat
If you have a different ground meat at home, or you just prefer a different one – go for it! I’ve only ever made ground turkey or ground chicken lettuce wraps so that’s what I would recommend, but if you want to try it with ground beef, give it a go! I’m curious if Beyond Meat would work, too!
Add other veggies
I was just talking the other night about how I think this would be so good with mushrooms mixed into the meat. Yum, right?! I also think this would be great with some bell peppers!
Mix up the sauce
As I mentioned, this list can seem long if you don’t already cook with ingredients like hoisin or sesame oil. If you don’t want to purchase all of the different sauces, you could also look for a teriyaki sauce and use that instead. I’d just suggest adding some sriracha to that so you get a little kick at least!
Use a different lettuce
Don’t fret if you can’t find boston or butter lettuce! We used iceberg recently when we couldn’t find the other two and they were great. I think romaine could also work really nicely, too!

Great recipe! Just tried it for lunch today, and was delish! I have not used ground turkey for lettuce wraps. I normally use chicken, but this was really good! Thank you!
