What To Wear For Engagement Photos
Trying to figure out what to wear for engagement photos? Here are a few ideas…
Some fun news over here – we got our engagement photos back this week!! (Thanks Katrina Jayne!) I honestly felt like it was Christmas when they showed up in my inbox and I have ZERO clue how we’re going to pick our favorites. I mean, how many framed engagement photos is too many framed engagement photos? Asking for a friend…
It’s funny, even before I got engaged, I’d get questions about what to wear for engagement photos. I think it’s a universally stressful thing! You’ll have these pictures forever, but they’re also not as important as your wedding photos. You want to look nice, but also like yourself. Do you buy something new?! Do you dress up or wear something totally normal?! Ahhhh!
Obviously everyone is different, but here’s my philosophy: bring a casual outfit AND a dressier outfit. Think about it, most photographers will shoot with you for at least an hour, so why not play into both ends of the spectrum?!
What To Wear For Engagement Photos – Causal Outfit
You all know that I love to dress up, but I also really wanted photos of us that actually look like us on any given day. Engagement photos are such an awesome opportunity to capture life as it is before you get married, so we did that by capturing a neighborhood walk with Luna!
I decided to wear a simple white button down tied at the waist – something I wear a lot on the weekends or when I’m working from home. I paired that with my favorite skinny jeans and cute straw slides. No major jewelry (just my engagement ring and the necklace I wear everyday) or heels… totally normal Lauren in 2019!

What To Wear For Your Engagement Photos – Dressed Up
Okay truth time – everyone likes photos of them looking their best, right? DUH. So go ahead and put that dress on, girl!
That being said, don’t sacrifice comfort for glam – especially if you’re not used to getting your photo taken. If you’re uncomfortable, it will show in the photos. In other words, if you would never wear that dress or those shoes in real life, don’t wear them for your engagement photos! Instead, wear what makes you feel confident and beautiful – not what you think you’re “supposed to” wear.
I feel most comfortable in a wrap dress, so that’s what I went with! It’s one of my favorite silhouettes and I love that this one had sleeves so I wouldn’t be self conscious of my arms at all (I’m human, I get self conscious sometimes!). And while I don’t think you need to wear white by any means, it is fun to have an excuse to have a “bride” moment!
