What To Wear To Wedding Rehearsal – 5 Types of Dresses
Wondering what to wear to wedding rehearsal dinners coming up? Here are some ideas!
As most of you know, I do a Q&A in my stories every week – and two of the most common questions I get are always regarding what to wear as a wedding guest and what to wear to a rehearsal dinner. I personally LOVE a good rehearsal dinner – it’s one of my favorite parts of the wedding weekend.
The bride and groom are always so excited the night before their big day, and it’s usually such a lovely and intimate event for the couple’s closest friends and family to gather before the big party. That being said, it can be tricky to figure out what to wear to a rehearsal.
Just like every wedding is different, every wedding rehearsal dinner is different! I think the best way to figure out the appropriate rehearsal dinner attire is to check out the venue of the dinner, the venue of the wedding, the wedding’s dress code, and the bride and groom’s vibe. Based on those things, you can usually figure out what kind of vibe they’re going for. Regardless, very few rehearsal dinners are formal black tie, as in you need to get another gown.
I usually think about what I’m wearing to the wedding and opt for something a step down from that. I know that can feel easier or harder depending who you are on the guest list. Your best friend is getting married? You probably have an idea of what she expects you to wear.
Your significant other is in the wedding but you don’t really know the bride? That can be harder for sure. But either way, I hope this post helps you find something you feel gorgeous and confident in. After all, there’s really just one universal rule to remember. Don’t wear a white dress so you don’t take attention away from the bride. Simple enough, right?
What To Wear To Wedding Rehearsal
Sundress
I really love when rehearsal dinners are on the more casual side, because all you have to do to look appropriate and feel comfortable is dress up a sundress in your closet! The mini dress pictured above also comes in eyelet, linen and maxi dresses. All of which you can wear with comfy block heels.
I also think this bow front dress, this linen mini or this short nap dress would be cute too! These looks work for venues like neighborhood restaurants and outdoor venues, with a business casual type dress code. Shop some more options below, too!

Mini Cocktail Dress
If you’re going to a rehearsal dinner that isn’t super casual, but also not fancy – opt for a cocktail dress! A mini or midi would work, but let’s start with mini dresses. The dress I’m wearing above is old by Amanda Uprichard, but I have a huge crush on this pink Staud dress that usually retails for $260 but it’s on sale for $177! It also comes in black is also on sale for $185.
Speaking of Staud, this dress is also so fun but if it’s over your budget, this $59 dress looks nearly identical!!
These are the types of dresses that you could absolutely style for an actual wedding, too!

Midi Cocktail Dress
Moving on to midi dresses! I love the dress pictured above because it doesn’t feel overly fancy, but (after a good steam!) the cut is perfect for a rehearsal dinner. It comes in a bunch of colors, too!
I think this would work for most rehearsal dinners at a nice restaurant or country club. Somewhere that your date would wear a dress shirt and sport coat, maybe with some dress pants too. If you think the dress code calls for fancier cocktail attire, I also love this one, this one and this one. You can dress either of them up with a pair of killer pumps and some simple jewelry.

Nap Dress
As you might have seen, I finally gave in to the trend and ordered a nap dress to try… and I honestly love it. It’s just SO versatile. Because it’s so comfortable, you can easily throw it on with sandals for something casual, but if you want to add some festive heels and glam up your hair and makeup, it would make a perfect rehearsal dinner dress. And still easy breezy!

Jumpsuit or Breezy Maxi
Don’t want to show off your legs? Get a jumpsuit or breezy maxi! My jumpsuit is super old but this one is really fun and only $66! And while you probably want to save your gowns for the actual wedding, a breezy maxi like this one or this one would make great rehearsal dinner attire!
