My Winnie The Pooh baby shower in Chicago!
As you might have seen, our baby shower was last weekend and I’m still reeling over how perfect it was. The Chicago venue, the blue hydrangeas, the Winnie The Pooh details, the cake… it was all straight out of my dreams.
We hosted the brunch at Summer House Santa Monica in Lincoln Park, which has been a favorite brunch spot of mine pretty much since they opened. I’ve been to a few events in their back room and it always made me swoon, so I threw the idea out there to my parents and sister as a counter to a suburban venue.
For those of you who don’t know, I was a COVID bride. We planned a whole wedding weekend in Chicago, complete with a ceremony and reception at Cafe Brauer… that we eventually had to kiss goodbye. We technically could have waited longer or cut our guest list in a major way, but since we didn’t want to do either of those things, we switched everything to the suburbs.
Of course, it all turned out absolutely beautiful and I still got some city photos, so all’s well that ends well. I am absolutely not complaining about one tiny bit of our wedding weekend.
But because my parents planned my sister’s 40th birthday celebration for the night before, we had a ton of family fly in for the weekend. There was something incredibly special about bringing them downtown to show off a venue in our city and then also back to our condo to see what our lives here actually look like, meet Luna, hang out on our patio, and get a peek at the nursery.
And because we had so many out of towners, we invited male family members to join us which made the whole thing feel like one big celebration and reunion. I also loved having Adam up there opening gifts with me. We are becoming parents together, after all!
I kept saying that the whole day felt like me and that really sums it up. It just felt like such a reflection of our lives and the joy we feel about this baby boy. It was just the best. Best best best.
Winnie The Pooh Baby Shower
We actually didn’t originally plan for it to be a Winnie The Pooh baby shower! We sent out a pretty standard animal themed evite originally, but when my sister and my mom found some Pooh Bear themed goodies on Etsy, we knew we had found a better theme.
I’ve always loved Winnie The Pooh and Adam and I joke that pregnancy is turning me into Pooh Bear. Between the belly and the sweet tooth, it’s not too far off 😂
Winnie The Pooh Cake
Summer House is known for their desserts, so I was very hesitant to get a cake when my mom brought it up. But once she told me that we could get a Winnie The Pooh baby shower cake from Sweet Mandy B’s Bakery, I was sold. Especially when she told me that we could get confetti cake with chocolate on the inside. I know I’m pregnant so I might be biased, but I think it’s the best cake I’ve ever eaten. My favorite, at the least!
Winnie The Pooh Place Cards/Table Numbers
My sister found this bundle on Etsy that has place cards, a welcome sign, custom signs (that she turned into table numbers) and thank you tags that she attached to little bags of Hershey kisses. How cute is that?!
Baby Predictions & Traditions for Baby
That bundle also came with 25 editable games! We decided against games because we didn’t feel like we needed them. Instead, my sister edited two of the layouts into a Baby Predictions card and Traditions for Baby card for all of our guests to fill out. I absolutely LOVED this choice because Adam and I loved reading through them at the end of the night and plan on holding onto them as a keepsake.
Blue Hydrangeas
The back room at Summer House is so gorgeous and green on it’s own that I knew we didn’t need much. But my mom worked with Halsted Flowers to create these absolutely stunning arrangements with blue hydrangeas and they couldn’t have been more perfect. I love that they didn’t overwhelm the table and you could see over them/talk to the person on the other side, yet they added so much sweetness to the room.
What I Wore
I absolutely LOVED wearing the Hill House Grace dress and cannot recommend it enough for an expecting mom. I had originally ordered this blue shift dress that I returned because people warned me that it wouldn’t fit as I grew… and then I repurchased it again just to make sure they were right 😂 It technically did fit, but not as well as it did the first time I ordered it. My 27 week bump brought the hemline up too much. Woops!
Then I got this sweater dress which is adorable but the forecast started fluctuating between 60 and 75. Wearing wool in those temperatures is a terrible idea. Especially pregnant!
So I panic ordered a few more options that arrived on the Friday night before my Saturday shower, and this one was perfect. I felt beautiful all day long, and I love that it’s not maternity so I can wear it for years to come. Because of the smocking, I didn’t even need to size up!
I own a few Hill House dresses that I love but this dress has officially become the most special one in my closet and I feel so grateful that they created something that made me feel so confident and comfortable, even with a growing belly. And if it’s sold out on their site, there are more sizes available here!! I got a small.
Also how cute are my mom and sister?! My sister wore a Hill House dress too, and I actually found this Sail To Sable dress for my mom. They both looked gorgeous!
