True Food Kitchen comes to Chicago!
If you follow me on Instagram, then you already know…
TRUE FOOD KITCHEN IS OPEN IN CHICAGO!!
So, why do I love TFK so much? Here’s the scoop. My mom discovered this restaurant in Scottsdale a few years ago and raved about it. She then learned more about Dr. Weil and the Anti-Inflammatory Diet, and has been back to that restaurant multiple times. Since then, both me and my brother (separate occasions) tried out locations in Arizona and California and agreed that the hype was real. And now, we get to have it in our own Windy City!!
But what kind of food is it, Lauren? Well, they say it the best:
“Honest food, that tastes really good.”
You don’t have to be a die hard health fanatic to dine there, either. The anti-inflammatory diet isn’t about depriving you at all. Instead, it’s about food trends and exciting flavors intersecting with healthy living. Yes, they have vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options – but at the same time, they also have pizzas and burgers and cocktails. There’s something for everyone!
I got to peek into the new location to shoot these photos, and as soon as I sat down, I heard about how gorgeous the Apple Carrot Ginger Tonic was… they weren’t lying, huh? Look at that color! If you like a punch of ginger, you have to try this one. So flavorful and refreshing. And pretty ?
And since I knew I would be posting these photos, I had to get my favorite salad!! This is their Season Ingredient Salad: brussels sprouts, butternut squash, cauliflower, pomegranate, toasted mulberry and horseradish vinaigrette. You guys. A plate of vegetables shouldn’t taste this good. Haha I’m serious! I’ve had this multiple times and I can’t get enough. If you watched my insta-story, you know I devoured the whole thing, too. Soooo good!
And of course I had to taste-test some cocktails for you! This is their Autumn Orchard Sour, made with muddle pear, juiced apple, lemon zest, cinnamon and mulled brandy. It literally tasted like Fall! Also, yes the menu says juiced apple because they don’t just pour sugary apple juice in… they juice real apples and add that. Not messing around!
Wait, there’s more!
Their Butternut Squash Pizza is unreal. This ‘za has butternut squash, onions, kale and almond ricotta. What’s almond ricotta? Oh it’s just a magical fake cheese made from almonds that looks and tastes just like ricotta. And they dollop it on just like Coalfire does on their famous pepperoni pie. Needless to say, I was in HEAVEN.
And last but not least, this is their Thai Grapefruit Martini. Between this shoot, the pre-opening party and dinner, I tried a lot of their cocktails and this one is by far my favorite. It’s fresh and bright, and girly enough without being too sweet. The perfect cocktail for me!
So… when are you going to try True Food Kitchen?? Let me know when you do!
